Possible problem with Hydro Hot furnance

Here's the scenario: Hydro Hot furnace/hot water. 3 zones in coach. Zone 1: both Hydro Hot diesel and roof heat pump, Zone 2: Roof heat pump, Zone 3 : both Hydro Hot diesel and roof heat pump.

When I set the heat from the Hydro Hot, Zone 3 is toasty warm, while zone 1 just blows cold air. I cannot get heat in the front of the coach unless I use the roof heat pump, which supplies a good amount of heat.

The Hydro Hot seems to supply enough hot water when being used. I generally have been using the electric anode of the Hydro Hot and an auxiliary hot water heater for my hot water needs. This tends to conserve diesel fuel.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on with the Hydro Hot that does not allow the Zone 1 to supply heat?

  • Your Hot water check valve AT the Hydro Hot unit for that Zone is stuck closed. Hit it with a hammer to free it up. Common problem on Aqua/Hydro Hot units. Doug

Roger Berke (the Hydro Hot "guru") has troubleshooting info on the above site. He can also ship parts asap. Very good technician. We had him service our Hydro Hot in Albuquerque.
  • You have the same system I do. Sounds like one or more of the five recirculation pumps is not working or there is line blockage. I am headed to Junction City in a few days to get work done on my diesel heater. When they work they are very effective. Mine has required a lot of repair. It only has about 300 hours on it.
  • You should have a manual for your Hydro Hot which will take you through troubleshooting your system.
Not to be critical but your questions suggest at this point you haven't followed the manual.
It simply sounds like one zone is at fault and should be easy to ascertain where the problem lies.
    Good luck
