I agree, but at the same time be thankful that you have found the problem. Even w/ a shorted converter, the 20 amp breaker should trip before any connection heats up.
Reminds me a couple yrs ago, our electrical stuff here in the house was going crazy, tv flickering, dryer lights coming on for no reason, etc, then the A/C slowed/shut down etc.I knew there was a serious electrical problem outside some where. I headed for the sub panel in the laundry room, while DW took a stroll outside to the main panel, then she hollered, come here, listen to this !!
It was scary, sounded just like my arc welder inside the main panel box.
Long story short, a loose screw on a large terminal lug, that was in a 6 month old box that was installed by, guess who,.....you got it, a genuine elec tech !
