I think the other generator manufacturers use 23'(7 meters) so their numbers on the surface are near Honda's. That's why you have to dig out how their dba levels are measured to compare apples to apples.
On page 16 of Honda's Generator brochure you'll find the dba ratings of Honda's generator line. At the very bottom of the page it states:
Noise levels at rated load to reflect maximum noise level possible, measured at 9 feet (3 meters) from the control panel side of the generator.
I see that Honda is also using LwA measurements.
LwA is an international noise level measurement that uses a weighting factor to reflect noise "tonality" in addition to the sound power (dBA) level.
