The specs for the 6500 DO say "Inverter" as well as "fuel economy switch" here:

While the 4000 says neither, but looks similar. Maybe it really is synchronous?
The 6500 inverter will stream 6000 watts (according to the specs), which is more than twice the power output of a Honda 3000, but only 38 pounds heavier.
My personal experience with the 2700, which is rated to stream 2600 watts continous, is that it will stream 2600 watts all day without issue.
