Powermax Boondocker 55a

Just installed it into my WFCO panel. Not quite a direct fit. Powermax chassis is wider than the slots in the panel but with a minor mod it's in. Plugged into shore power and with the brand new golf cart batteries it started in boost @ 14.8v within 30/45 sec.(old WFCO took 4/5 min before supplying 12v) and after 20 min dropped to 13.8v. Was still @ 13.8 when last checked last night. First thing this morning it's @ 13.3v. The old WFCO was jumping all over the place so I suppose it was shorted out. Randy @ Best Converters was a big help and had it here in a few days. I think I'll be good to go next trip out. May go in a couple of weeks and do some trail riding in the desert and see how the new setup works
  • It is advertised as direct replacement but it's in and working well. Can't wait to go out & try it out.
  • Nice to hear it fit with minor mods. I thought MBA was designed as a direct exact fit replacement. A little disappointing but still WAY better than the wfco.

You'll love it! One thing-if you got the newer version (4 stage with equalize) I've found that when it does it's timed equalize the voltage will jump to 14.8-15.2 and the 12v lights will flicker. I also notice it on my Trimetric 225rv. Hardly any amps when equalizing unless the batts are low.

It is the new 4 stage and the GC batteries are new also.

It is the main board. PMPC-55-MBA 55a MBA

I don't have fancy expensive equipment and I can only share the #'s I saw on my meter.
  • Which exact model do you have? PowerMax says they make a PM4 55amper but it does boost to 14.4 while Randy says he sells PM4Bs that do 14.6 but also says they stopped making 55s and now make 60s instead.

You say you have a Randy 55amper that does 14.8. That fits neither.

I have a PM3-100 that I took the lid off and cranked up the little voltage pot to 14.8 but that screwed up the three stages action, so now it is a sort of 100amp Vector, which is what I want. I don't need it for a converter as such.
  • I'll post again after a trip. Usually about 99.9% of the time I'm the only person in my toyhauler so the gen should not be needed very much with 2 Interstate GC2's @ 232ah.
