Predator Inverter 2kW?

OK, Champion Generators have proven to be very popular, both for use and to criticize. Has anyone tried the Harbor Freight Predator?

  • Just make sure you have good outdoor speakers to drown out the generator ;)

    Its noise rating is 66db!:E
That's louder than the open frame contractor style Champion 3500w non-inverter generator. And it costs less than $300.
66db is extremely loud for an inverter generator.

You can buy the Champion 2000w inverter generator for the same price and its noise rating is WAY quieter.

That HF Predator doesn't deserve to be called an inverter generator with a noise rating of 66db.
  • If you want a cheap knockoff, Amazon frequently has the 2kw WEN Gen on sale for under $400 on their woot.com website.

Last one I had the pleasure (not) to liston to all night sounded like a hammer was striking metal. The Predator engine is an unbalanced Chinese Honda knockoff. A construction crew I know gave up on them due to constant failure.
  • I just looked at Menards in Columbia, Mo. The Champion is even less there than at our local store. The web site shows $471.99 less 11% for a final cost of $420.07.
  • I don't know anything about the predator, but the Champion 1700/2000 seems to get many more good reviews than bad. I bought one at our Menards store for $499 less an 11% rebate (they run the rebate special every few weeks. In fact it is on now). I haven't used it camping yet, but it is going to be my "go to" when all I need to do is keep batteries charged. It can be paralleled and should run an 13.5 btu ac in parallel.
