Don't think I ever said Johnson Controls brand. I specified them as a manufacturer.

I'm not sure how to treat a starting battery. I install it, goop up the terminals against corrosion, then drive the vehicle. What else does one do? Unless you're referring to abusing it in some manner, which I haven't done.

By the way, I found the receipt. It was less than 18 months old. I had it load tested twice. The first tester said it was shot, the second one (who is also the original vendor) said it passed, but was on it's last quarter of life. They still replaced it for free. Unfortunately, the problem is still there. Guess it's time to climb underneath and verify that the starter has good connections.

I prefer Con Agra brand green beans...

If a car battery will see some cycling, it makes perfect sense to choose AGM. Trojan is another company that manufactures batteries in the USA on both coasts.

A lot of today's common brand battery failures are caused by garbage grade recycled lead. Any AGM battery OEM will hoot "100% virgin lead" in it's ads. They don't hoot for the fun of it.

I'm beginning to believe the only way to insure getting a starting battery these days that will grow gray whiskers before it dies, is to go with AGM.

Old-fashioned quality Pb has to undergo a 100% re-refining process that is FAR and away more expensive to perform than refining decent grade lead from a mine. So manufacturers resign themselves to using mud and the name of the game is beer can grade recycling. Beer can grade aluminum is a hell of a lot purer than recycled battery lead. Why don't you ask Rolls Battery if they use common "recycled" lead? There's a reason for it.

Um, I don't think so. The DieHard Advanced Gold is made by East Penn in Pennsylvania. And I'm sure they're supplying other brands, too.

I get Interstate batteries which are sold through NAPA stores. If I have a problem it is easy to find another NAPA store to take care of it even in very small towns. The warranties are roughly the same unless you buy an AGM battery which is a waste of money for a starter battery on a vehicle.

All batteries are now made in Mexico, So as long as you get the best battery sold by any retailer, you will be fine. Anymore, name and price are not markers of better batteries.

Three years? I would be looking for a warranty adjustment.
Premium battery would be Sears Platinum.
