The manual for my 2005 Ford V10 says that if the engine cooling system happens to run out of coolant, the engine is safe to be run at a slower speed but can continue to operate with no damage. It does this by alternating the firing of the cylinders. Just saying this as food for thought.
Normally, I'd check the hoses by squeezing them to see if they appear soft and weak or I pressurize the coolant system and look for bulging hoses or leaks. The belts, look for cracking and chunks of material that is missing. If all looks good but you're still worried, buy all new hoses and belts and bring them with you.
