Problems with yamaha ef2000is generator

Do you have other loads running like your electric water heating element?

Hmm.. sounds fishy. You can tell if something else is sucking power.. the generator will be working hard even before your MW, so I doubt that's it.

I can understand having to turn off the eco throttle, but once the MW is running it should operate normally. And you're sure it's 900w?

And after 3 minutes, perhaps the converter is kicking on and sucking more power.

Make sure your fridge is not on Auto, but set to "Gas". I had the same problem with my Honda EU2000 and changing the fridge over to gas solved the issue. A member here suggested that and it worked. The fridge draws much more power when set to Auto.

Turn off the breaker to the converter and see if that helps. Even with a 3500/4000 unit we had a hard time running the AC and convertor at high altitude.
I turned off the convertor and the generator had no problem running the AC.

I have the Honda Eu2000i and the same problem. I noticed that the converter drew 1290 watts and my very small 900 watt micro drew 1150 watts. I opened the wire to the converter and put a 3 way light switch in the circuit: connect the 120 v supply (the original wire to the converter) to the common terminal, micro line to line 1, and converter line to line 2. I used a flat paddle switch so it didn't protrude from the wall very far. I made the top portion of the switch go to the micro which is high in the camper and the bottom go to the converter since it is located near the floor. Now my Honda hums away at idle until the micro is switched on. It then speeds up to maybe half throttle and the micro cooks properly. You need to keep the paddle switch in the converter position until the micro is needed or your batteries won't charge. All the lights in my camper are LED's so they are basically no load. The water heater and fridge need to be on LP or again, the gen set could be overloaded.

Depending on your trailer's converter and the state of your battery when you fire up the genny, the converter will suck 700-1100 watts all by itself trying to recharge your battery, leaving very little capacity for the microwave.

If you try to run the microwave less than 3-4 hours after starting the genny, this alone could be the source of your problem. Don't forget that there are also continuous draws for the 'fridge control board, the converter circuits themselves, and water heater/furnace control boards if they are turned on.

If your battery is fully charged, ie 90-100% full, a 2000 watt genny is plenty to also run the microwave. It might also start and run your AC, if you are lucky.

I have a Yamaha 2000 so I thought I would give it a try. I don't know what my microwave draws but I had no problems running it with the generator on "econo" the unit speeded up like you would expect. I would suggest load testing the generator. I find that the 500 watt halogen lights work well for this if you have them.

Get a Kill-A-Watt and learn that way more than 900W are input to the 900W cooking power MW. My 700W MW uses 1200W.

All interesting comments. The only thing I have on would be the converter. That could be charging the battery. Hot water heater is off, fridge is on propane. No lights on. Only other thing is the gas detector is on. I am camping at 7300 ft. elevation could that be the problem as well? I started thinking a fuel filter could be getting clogged? Thanks for all of the advice.

I will get a "Kill-A-Watt". What a cool tool to have anyway. Thanks.
