I have a 04 Silverado which I recently purchased. The gentleman I purchased it off of had installed a drawtite brake controller and said he pulled a small camper with it.. It seemed to work correctly so I assumed it should be a simple conversion over to my Prodigy 2 which I had in my other 03 Silverado (03). I unplugged the controller and plugged in the Prodigy 2 using the pigtail from my 03. Nothing no lights nothing..so I compare the 2 plugs that goes into the underdash power supply. Pins red/white and blue are all in the same location but the black is on the other side of the plug. So I pull the blue wire retainer on top of the plug pull the black wire and move over to the left, reinstall the wire retainer and plug and and sure enough I have power and everything seems to be working..but I don't think it is...for instance, when I pull the key the Prodigy shuts completly off, it never did that before, it would stay on for about 15 mins or so. Also if I have my foot on the brake when I start it P.L. is displayed, never has done that before..Anyone know where to start

Double check and make sure the pigtail called for is the same. In theory they are because its only one model year difference, but manufacturers are notorious for making changes even in mid model year without warning. But it really sounds to me like someone did some rewiring. Get a cheap 12 volt tester, the kind with a bulb in it. Test each connection at the 7 pin connector by having someone sit in the driver's seat and go through each light, brakes, signals, etc. That will tell you a lot and give you an idea on what to do.

Yea I was thinking of doing that..but I will say..I hooked up the camper and everything seemed to work properly..

It is hooked to a switched power feed- not really ideal. The p.l. is power loss, meaning the power was interrupted while braking (though in your case the power was restored while braking).

I hear what you are saying..I believe they have something under the hood connected wrong. I don't believe (be the first one I have seen) it came with a tow package. It's a 04 4x4 5.3L EC LS. However it does have the trans cooler. The previous owner purchased new and he put a hitch and electric brakes on it. Since all of my lights work, brakes react when stepping on pedal I am curious if I would be alright to just run a lead from positive side of battery to black lead?

I think between 03 and 04 GM switched the wiring on the harness for the trailer brake controllers, meaning which wire went to what on the controller.

Well feel free to call me dummy! It was the fuse..plugged in the new fuse and all is well..Thanks for all your help and pointers!

Fuse # 5, 30 amp for Stud 2 position powers the trailer brake controller plug at the underdash distribution block(mbec) in my picture. Fuse #1, 40 amp, provides 12v power to the rear 7 way for battery charging or other use.

Well I figured out how to test the pink 30A fuse..it is bad..surely this is not my whole problem...

Ok, here are a couple of pics under the hood..If looking at the pics the post on the right should be 12v correct? It's dead nothing, switched or unswitched. Does the pink 30A fuse control this? No idea how to check these square fuses..I did put my prodigy pig tail back to the orignal configuration and now there is no power to it at all.

Well thanks for the info..but I am just trying to figure this out..they wiring diagram you posted would help someone who knew what all that means..LOL..no seriously thanks for your help..I think what I am going to do is put my pigtail back to where is should be, then try to figure out what they have done under the hood..fuses are in place (also checked the brake light fuse inside checked out fine). I think the problem has to be where they are getting power..I am going to take a couple of pics and maybe that might help!

Sounds like you are wired wrong. There are suppose to be two power feeds -one always connected so emergency lever operates independent of the brake pedal. Second brake pedal switch source is via the CHMSL circuit. The brake light activation wire is at Cavity D. Make sure your cab mounted brake light fuse is intact! Always wire by PINOUT/function not by color.

The image shows the MBEC underdash electrical center where the controller should be connected too.

No..thanks for any help or direction..really just sort of thinking of taking everything out and run new wire to everything..just want to make sure it's correct..

Ah ok, wasn't quite sure which year the change took place, just throwing the idea out there.
