Thanks everyone for your replies. I figured that on the voltage drop anyways... and will go with the #4 and be happy with how much better it's going to work.
Regarding fitment in the WFCO: I measured the lower cavity in my 8955 to be 4" x 11.75" x 7.25".
Per the Progressive Dynamics website the 9260 and 9270 are 3.6" x 8" x 9".
Looks like I might be about 3/4" short on the depth and may need to cut the back of the WFCO out. I think this will be OK as there is free space behind it, with nothing that should interfere physically, and should also help with airflow. I don't have many options for surface mounting outside of the converter, at least anywhere near the battery compartment.
