Progressive Dynamics Converter/Charger 4645 - HELP?

Earlier this summer, I replaced my original Parallax converter/charger to a PD 4645. When I finished the replacement, it seemed to be working just ducky. I was quite proud!

Fast forward to yesterday. The 4600 series does not come with a Remote Pendant, so I had purchased one separately. I sent the instructions, the pendant, and original 4645 jumper wire to my ham radio friend, who is a wiring genius, for him to cut and solder the pendant to the jumper. I am not comfortable with such fine wire soldering and had other things on my mind.

I installed the Remote Pendant yesterday and the little green light blinked happily away (a fast blink). Today, it is still blinking fast.

Here is what the Remote Pendant instructions say:

BOOST MODE: green light will stay on.

NORMAL MODE: green light will flash slow (once every second) at more than 50% charge and flash fast when battery is at 100% charge.

STORAGE MODE: green light flashes very slowly, once every 8 seconds.

Does anyone know if the thing is working, since it's still blinking fast? How long does it take for the battery to go into storage mode (VERY slow blink)??

Thanks!
  • If you can measure the voltage at the converter, 14.4v is boost, 13.6v is normal and 13.2v is storage. If you measure it at the battery the voltage will be lower due to the losses in the wiring.
  • Good call on dumping the Paralax for the PDI, I did that 7 years ago and never looked back.

The length of time the PDI stays in "regular mode (fast Blink is directly proportional to the voltage of your batteries. Mine has stayed in fast blink for 24-48 hours when back from a trip.

I got this from PDI a while back, hope it helps you

    Shore or Generator power on:

Storage mode Blinks 6-8 seconds apart
Regular mode Blinks from 1-4 times per second
    Boost mode Solid Lite

    Power off: Battery Connected

Fast blink is above 12.77 many times a second

    Slow blink 11.95 - 12.7 1 -2 times per second

The light will go solid around 11.9 volts

I think the guy may have been high or the blinks on battery have been reversed since I bought it as mine goes from solid to fast blink to slow blink as the batteries discharge.
