Progressive Industries Electrical Management System

While preparing for my cross country trek, purchased the Progressive Industries EMS to protect against power surges and low voltage situations.

I also got a dog bone to plug in a 50amp pedestal outlet and then plug my shore power cable into the other end of the dog bone.

Hope this question doesn't sound too stupid, but does the use of the dog
bone from 50 to 30 amp, give fewer problems, or more consistent power ?
I have a progressive unit also, and had one time it kept kicking out at a Campground due to faulty ground issue. Have a dogbone on hand , and will use it if it improves things, thanks Joe

I have the other make of 50 amp. (I'd rather have the PDI but I got what was basically free). I want to convert it to an INSTALLED (I do know how) but have yet to get the old Rond-Tu-IT. (I need a 50 amp short (like 8 feet) extension cord is all) this puppy when finished will go between the Hughes Autoformer hidden in my RV and the transfer switch.
  • The EMS should be a part of every rig. It is a couple C-notes, but it will save a rig from auto-BBQ-ing itself if one uses a miswired outlet (or plugs into a dryer outlet by mistake.) Of course, low voltage can easily burn compressors out.
  • Just plugged my new one in at home today. It's a lot bigger than I was expecting but I am feeling more comfortable about plugging into unknown power already. I think it will be a good investment / peace of mind, plus LT warranty!
  • I just ordered the 30 amp portable model. I haven't had one since we started with a pop up in 1988, so I figure my luck is bound to end soon. And with the purchase of a new trailer this past summer, it was time to do it before we leave on a trip in a couple of months.
  • Ditto, Bobbo & PenMan!

IMO, a few hundred dollars for a PI EMS is good insurance and peace-of mind against many, many thousands of dollars of potential damage from inferior power. Can't imagine the drama of being on the road thousands of miles from home only to have a catastrophic failure of your entire electrical system (converter, inverter, A/C, frig, TV, satellite, etc.) due to an unplanned/forced stop at a Mom & Pop RV park who wired pedestals on the cheap. Even if your TT/motorhome insurance covered the damage, who wants to go through the downtime and inconvenience of ripping your entire "home" apart to effect the repair. Checked power with a voltmeter prior to plugging in? What about 5 seconds later? Or, during the night while you're sleeping? Like most insurance (policies), most never need it, but if you do, wow, it can be darn near priceless to have.
  • I've got the 30 amp model but need to buy a 50 amp since getting the new trailer. So far the 30 amp has been fine but I may need to run two a/c this summer on our cross country trip. They're expensive but worth every penny.
  • Wonderful choices. Same ones I made 6 years ago. I have not been sorry since.
