Although Power Systems has gutted the once great warranty on Progressive Industries surge protectors they still make a quality unit that CAN be repaired...field serviceable.
TRC-Surge Guard make similar products BUT their warranty is no better, they have terrible tech service and their portable units are NOT repairable -------case is factory sealed (glued shut) no access w/o busting seam open and then no parts available from TRC.
Call TRC and see what kind of 'help' you get-----hahaha
Having owned a TRC voltage regulator I'd affirm that TRC isn't very helpful at all for repair information or spare parts and once the 1 yr warranty has expired their only answer is to simply toss the damaged unit and buy another new one. :M That said, it's inaccurate to suggest that a TRC portable EMS is factory sealed and the Progressive isn't when if fact they're both the same - not considered field serviceable. If an owner wants to open a portable model from either manufacturer there's nothing to stop them but don't expect either to honour any warranty once the unit has been opened. In order to install a hard wire Progressive unit it has to be opened so by definition it's "field serviceable", however connections to the TRC hard wire models are external and do not require opening the case. Those discounting a TRC simply because of it's stated 1 yr warranty vs the many exclusions of the new limited lifetime warranty from Progressive are doing themselves a disservice as a TRC EMS can serve the purpose just as well and in fact offers features the Progressive units do not. The devil is in the details, not necessarily what forum pundits claim, whether true or not, so any prospective owner would be far better off to discern for themselves just what those details are and how important they may apply to their own particular situation. ;)
