It was acetylene.
Propane in stored stage is a liquid. It takes LOT of heat to evaporate and then needs to mix with air (oxygen) to ignite.
I witnessed on the plant when forklift operator managed to ignite fill hose, what turn into +- 1000 gallons tank to overheat and blow the safety lid.
That made self-controled burn with flame shooting 100' into air.
Burning took about 1 hr and Fire Dept was just standing by and not even trying to extinguish it.
Bottom line - propane is one of the safest fuel you can get.
