One of my winter projects is to design and fabricate an arm to carry a small SST propane grill on the back of our travel trailer. This arm will fold down and pivot to enable using the grill without removing it from the mount.The new grill instructions say to keep it 10 feet from a building and 10 inches from combustible surfaces. Frankly I don't quite know what to do with that information.Does anyone know the required, safe, or recommended distance to maintain between the grill and the trailer???Thanks.

I think keystone has a grill attachment arm onthe back of their units. go to a keystone dealer and look at how close the grill is to the back end

Get the grill. Hook it up and fire it up to full blast and see how close you can put your hand to it without it being 'uncomfortable'... That would be my gauge for how close I'd want it to my trailer.. ;)I've seen those attached grills to the side that is only about 6" or so away from the side.. Not sure that would work for me.. But, that's just me..Good luck!Mitch

I like that outdoor kitchen one.. Those others are probably fine too.. Just not where I want my grill, but I can see where that could work..Wind usually dictates where I set my grill up.. I like to see questions relating to fire safety. There are no dumb questions about fires that may be too close to something that they shouldn't be. I am currently trying to figure out how to politely tell a brainiac SIL that their second story wooden deck is not the best place for the propane grill. He really is a brainiac BTW. Sometimes engineers miss the obvious.

Personally, I would never attach a grill to an RV. The chances of something going wrong increase exponentially. If you want to use your onboard propane to grill with, buy an extender hose and modify your portable grill.

I had a RVQ on my last RV. It attached to the RV via a rail.
Worked great.
However the RVQ was designed to be used in close quarters to the RV and had a reduced flame. Many complained about the RVQ's performance because it would not generate as much heat as a typical grill.
My point is beware all grills are not created equal do not base your distance on some internet photo an place a full flame grill too close to your RV

I don't like smoke from a grill going in the windows on a nice day. Separating the grill from the RV a fair distance takes care of that problem.

One way to insure heat from damaging , would be to put piece of aluminum plate behind grill on arm. With an air space on both sides the plate should reflect anr damaging heat.

The distance recommend isn't to accommodate the grill operating normally. It's to accommodate one that's been neglected for years and is full of grease

When that lights up the temperature could exceed 900F, almost double the 500F temp of a Weber Q.
