Propane heater issue

I have a new to me dutchman trailer. Tried to light the propane water heater and it tried to light but the flame goes right out and the dsi light come on. If I cover the holes in the mixture pipe it will eventually light but the flame doesn't blow hard into the heater. Stove and furnace works great. What should I check?

Check for a spider web in the burner tube.

    X2

    Also gas orifice
Remove it, soak in alcohol, then blow it out----using your mouth or very low pressure don't want to damage the orifice as it is 'metered'
  • Took the tube off and its clear. I sprayed carb cleaner into the orfice and it doesnt seem blocked but I didnt remove it. The flame is big but it doesnt shoot into the tank area with any kind of force and I need to cover the holes betweeen the orfice and tube for it to light. Is there something else to check? Any kind of filters?

Do all the other propane burners, especially big ones like rangetop, work ok?

It almost sounds like you either haven’t purged all the air out of the lines, or have a supply problem, bad gas or funky regulator.
  • I just had a problem similar to this but my stove burners were also low. I replaced the regulator that was only 5 years old and all works great now.
