Propane leak

So here is my issues, I have not found anything over the Internet yet about my strange propane leak on my 1999 bornfree. I have had the RV for a year now and last September while driving in hot weather just after filling my propane tank we started smelling it in short intervals while driving down the highway. It started 20 mins after it was filled we had the propane on to keep the fridge cold. After the 4th time we smelled it and it lasted longer than 5 mins we pulled off the highway got out and notices propane spewing out. It didn't last too long. We shut it off immediately tried to call around to propane dealers but nobody would seem to help us. I spoke to my father who told me to keep it off and don't use it. So we kept it shut off and continued our drive. With the propane off once every 30-45 mins we would smell it again with it shut off. Skipping ahead we had the same issues while coming home just not as frequent. Didn't have an issue since until the end of july this year on a 85 degree day. We still didn't use the propane on any trips since the trip back in September last year.I have noticed it happens with elevation going up and down on hot days on those twords trips. I am stuck on what the problem could be. Anybody out there have the same issue or heard of something like this? I am about to take it in but I wanted to hear from others that know what it might be.

  • Shutting it off is not going to fix it.
Leaving it on and using some of the propane.....in time will.

But the proper think to do would be,......while shut off, no flame burning,....
open the bleeder valve until it quits bleeding off. How simple is that ??

I think that you were probably overfilled with propane and the tank was venting the excess propane when it got hot and the propane expanded. Several years ago I was standing at my daughters house watching a propane tank vent on a hot day. It was not connected, just sitting in the sun with a stream of propane coming out of the safety vent.

    Exactly!

  • We've had more than one bleed after it got what I thought was overfilled. Once some of it got used, and wasn't so full, they would work just fine.

  • Take it down to suburban propane dealer - they should be able to determine where the leak is - may not even charge you if your a regular customer.
  • and notices propane spewing out.

    Please explain..WHERE?

When your propane tank is refilled is the attendant opening the 'bleed' valve and then securing filling when liquid spews out

OR is attendant just pumping away until it stops filling??
