Dr Quick, why was the excess flow feature not resetting itself on its own as designed? With all appliances off, if the excess flow feature activates there is enough gas flow to fill the lines and balance the pressure of each side of the little ball and then the excess flow feature resets (spring pushes ball out of the way).
Yours may have malfunctioned or gunked up. Replace ACME pigtails.
