I thought the OP was talking about a residential generator's use of propane.
I live in the suburbs of DC. During area-wide power outages it is sometimes nearly impossible to get gasoline refills due to the gas stations not having power. Under these conditions I can easily get 20# Propane Bottle refills at rental centers (with generator backup) or big box stores (again with generator backup.)
Not yet mentioned is the fact that an engine that is run on propane as opposed to gasoline will never have the carb foul due to deposits.
Arguably propane is much safer to store than gasoline, will not go bad during prolonged storage, and burns cleaner than gasoline.
I can foresee problems out on the ranch at -55 degrees, but your gasoline engine might also have problems getting started at that temp.
I am not an RVer, but I understand the problems with propane usage in an RV that have been discussed here. However, I believe the OP was talking about residential use.
