Proper way to charge 12v in parallel

Since this is a low current maintenance charge I would connect the two batteries in parallel and leave them be.

If you are wanting to charge the batteries up to their 90% charge state in a quick three hour charge time then you will need to use a smart mode charger using 14.4VDC with the capacity of at least 17-20Amps per battery to do this.

I also check the fluid levels on a regular basis on batteries I have sitting on the work bench being trickle charged...

Actually if you have your battery fully charged they will sit on your work bench for a long period of time before discharging any at all. A fully charged battery will read 12.6-7VDC on its terminals. You never want the battery voltage to drop below 12.0VDC just sitting there. I very seldom pull my batteries from the trailer but do have a BATTERY DISCONNECT to completely disconnect them from the circuits. Here in Virginia they sit there all winter long. I do check them occasionally however.

The only way 2 chargers are better than one is in the time it takes.

Hook charger to 1 positive and 1 negative, set the charger to 12 volts...It won't matter which battery you connect to as long as both batteries are connected properly to each other.
