Prosine 2.0 will not reset.

After 10 years of faithful service my Pro may be done.

I have an error "Prosine internal error #xxxx" on the panel, then "attempting to restart".. but it will not. The inverter switch is on, and the panel says it is, but it will not invert - it's on Standby. It will not pass AC power. I disonnected all power for overnight, but that did no good. Tried running it without panel, nope. Clicked rocker switch off/on several times, no. That usual 'clunk' when the rocker switch is turned on and off is gone.

Called support, he said it's probably toast. He said the Xfer switch may be gone, but there's a specific error message for that which I'm not seeing.

I'm in the middle of a trip so I'm hoping to find a hardware store or truck stop for a small replacment, but I doubt I'll find a psw in those places. Being without my inverter makes things a bit inconvenient.

Just posting to see if any of you Pro users have a 'secret fix' for me!

  • I would tend to believe the sagging voltage on startup is causing the inverter to start. If the contacts had failed from this type of use, I would still expect to hear the relay close. This suggests the coil is bad, or the coil is not receiving power for some reason.
I am confused, do the generators start the A/C fine with the inverter installed but turned off?
  • As many of you know I've been using the pro to start my air con for many years. Reason is the generators (2-2k honda on Eco) sag at startup causing the inverter to take over, then when air is running the inverter drops out and the gens run it. It is questionable as to whether this is a good idea for the Xfer switch, although Xantrex support did not specifically tell me to stop doing that. At this time I don't know what has failed in the unit.

Reason I mention it is that the oddest thing happened when I removed the Pro from the shore/gen circuit - the generators had no problem starting the air! That got me to thinking...of possible reasons it doesn't work when the inverter is hard-wired in the circuit:

    1) The input voltage is sagging below the Pro's LowAc voltage limit. I could lower that to 85v (its lowest setting).

    2) The Pro's pigtails are too small to pass the air's starup amp requirement. Those 120vac pigtails seem too small for a 2kw inverter. They look like 14 or 16awg. I had strange problems with the AC a few years ago and discovered that the Romex/pigtail junction (wire nuts) was burning up. I soldered the connections and it's been fine ever since. I know a lot of amps are going through there.

I have tried starting the air with the inverter off, so, I know having the Pro in the circuit is the reason the gens will not start it.

The Xantrex tech suggested I step up to the 3kw unit, but, that unit also has a 30a xfer switch. So I'm not sure what he means by that. I'll look more closely at the unit to see what the 120vac connections look like.

Yes it would, and I am going to attempt that.
  • Failure of a relay COIL causes a lot different symptoms than the failure of relay CONTACTS. Different error messages possible.

Because there is no "clunk" I sure would be curious enough to pull it apart and see if it is a bad switch of relay. Wouldn't it be nice if you could fix it!
  • You got about 5 years more than me out of my Prosine 2.0.
I did buy another though ..mainly because it was mounted waay deep in a tight compartment and it was just easier to deal with the mounting and cables - which had no play in them.
It was still a ***** to exchange units...
