REAL Jerry Cans are heavy. Thick sheet metal. Military. Scarce and cruelly expensive. They were hot dipped galvanized. Good luck finding one.

With a CLEAN jug, wrap a SPACE BLANKET around it, then a couple of bungee cords. They need to fit TIGHT.

Keep the jug clean for the benefit of space blanket life.

Keep the jug to the side of the exhaust outlet. Heat rises in bumper to bumper traffic.

Propane cylinders shouldn't be an issue. Doesn't your van's exhaust point downward and towards the outside of the van?

You definitely don't want a gas can directly in the exhaust stream of either the van or the generator.

You would be well advised to buy a metal gas can for transportation. They are more durable than a plastic gas can. A small one will not weigh that much more than plastic.

You may have to move something or design a different approach than having everything stored on a single bumper tray.
