This was mentioned back a few posts. Use wood glue in the hole first and then fill in the hole wood slivers or toothpicks etc to fill the hole back up. Then you can re-use it again when it dries. There was a squirt-in product mentioned as well but I don't remember the brand name.
I have done this before myself with wood slivers but not with something as heavy as the awning mounting... Hope that works as easy..
Others said he used JB WELD to fill the hole first???
Maybe you can move an inch down on the mounting section and set a new hole???
