Qick question

Do you leave your refrigerator on electric at a moderate temp setting for the months it is not being used and is that OK ?

  • I always leave mine on, never turn it off. Sometimes on 120v and sometimes propane. I prefer to know if my fridge is having issues is having issues long before I go camping.

I typically use it as my beer cooler, and sometimes as an overflow for my house fridge. If no beer in it, I leave a couple of gallon jugs of water in the fridge. I do clean it out and wash it down a couple of times a year. I defrost it at least once a year.

This method has been working on this TC since 2004.

  • Mine stays on 24/7 from April until November. Always ready to go, and the beer is always cold.
  • I have a 2009 5th wheel and I have never turned off the refrigerator. I have electric where the trailer is stored and it stays plugged in all of the time.
  • Hi Dave,

We do the same, clean it up, use the off-set feature on the door latch to prevent mold buildup. I also freeze up a gallon or two of water in our chest freezer and I keep the ice trays from the TC there. When I restart the fridge I put those in the freezer, it helps to speed up the cooling down process.

I've written a few articles for www.truckcampermagazine.com in the April edition was a piece on the Assateague Island National Seashore, I'd really like your feedback Teach........
