Question about Freedom 458 Inverter

Hi,

I have a 2003 Allegro Bus 35IP.  It has the Xantrex 458 Charger/Inverter option.  I may need to replace the Xantrex and I am trying to figure out some of the factory wiring, specifically regarding the output from the inverter.  There appear to be 2 AC circuits (2 20 AMP romex wires) coming out of the Xantrex inverter.  I cannot determine where these are fused or how they tie into the primary 120v system.  The main 120v Fuse panel has no current through it when the inverter is on (makes sense as to not backfeed the inverter) - yet all the branches work and have power.

So really I have two questions:

  1. Are there fuses for the 2 output circuts from the inverter, if so where are they located?
  2. How does the inverter outputs tie into the 120v system without energizing the main 120v fuse panel?

I have my old one sitting on the workbench in my shop still... You can also find them on eBay...  I was going to list mine on eBay.  I could sell it to you there, I will probably be asking around $800 + shipping

It works fully, I just needed a charger that can do lithium which the Xantrex could not.

  • its a charger/converter, so it probably has a built in ATS (Auto Transfer switch) so when you are on shore power it will be selecting the shore power to be the supply for the rv.  If the shore power shuts off then it should switch over to the inverter output to power the RV.

so if you poke around the wiring what you should see is two inlets for power, one from the shore cable and another from the batteries, and one output that runs to your power panel main AC fuse (power input) so the line that runs to your 120V breaker panel is always hot, it just might be powered from the shore power if plugged in and power is available, or it might be powering that from the inverter circuit if the shore power is dead.
