Unfortunately he has got to wield a hydrometer to get a grip on where the batteries really are versus where he (or anyone else) believes they are. He may be busy but it does not take -that- long to dip 24 cells. Without a reality check guesswork will lead to nothing but disappointment and problems. Buy him a Freas, and goggles to wear OVER his reading glasses. He doesn't need to live with a hydrometer in his back pocket, but he does need an accurate state of affairs.
