Most if not all jurisdictions allow AL only for service entrance or sub-panel feed. I believe OP will need all copper for what he's looking to do.
OP, if you want that "belt & suspenders it will be OK", then go 2" conduit and don't worry about it. Code only specifies when conduit is too small, not too big....Sch 80 conduit is cheap enough, the $ difference between 1-1/2" and 2" is negligible.
OR, as smkettner says, call a local sparky and have him come over and give you an estimate with a detailed quote so you'll know exactly how he would do it.
