Also note that electrolyte vapor can get thru the caps and lightly coat the topside of the battery. If its coat across the posts it can slowly discharge you battery(s) in not under a trickle or float charge.
Take a sensitive volt ohm meter, set it on dc. One lead on a post and touch the other lead around the top of the battery where you see the coating.
Wet cells are a tremendous value IF properly fed and watered. I had 4 Sam's Club 6 volt batteries last 12 years!
