Quicker Battery charging

I need a quicker way to charge my Lifeline batteries.

My idea is to find a small/light (portable) charger, that I can plug into my gas generator and connect directly to the batteries, to quickly charge the AGMs. Goal is ability to recharge from 50% DOD in about 4 hours.

I want/need a charger that:
1. Outputs 45 to 65 amps.
2. User selects absorption voltage.
3. User selects when to switch to float mode.
4. Has a temperature sensor.

My gas generator's output is 120 volts and 16.7 amps AC.
Batteries are two 6 volts (220 Ahr).

Is this idea reasonable? Does such a charger exist at a reasonable price?

Alas no I don't think so.

That kind of a charger won't be small or light and it won't be cheap.

By any chance does your Gen. already have a 12 V output ?

How long does it take your "standard" charging arrangement to do this task ?

To get the rate you want it probably would be necessary to up the charging voltage above 15 and that's generally not good.
  • Lifeline = Unique charging profile. Think bulk constant current to 14.3V and then absorb constant voltage to float and then 13.3V. I can't identify chargers that meet that criteria. Some may be close. Mex may chime in with manual chargers etc. He's likely right for his lifestyle and so be it.

Your gen is OK. I can charge at 100A with 11A AC input.

My rig is hardly ideal, 2 different battery banks, 3 different charging sources and that is just the beginning of the Magnum and Monaco design/cost tradeoffs.
  • I think you would be just fine with a PD9260 mounted close with #4 wire.
Generally no.... that charger you want does not exist at a reasonable price.
