Hi BFL,
Once a month for equalizing is fine--but lots of RV's are in storage for many months in a row. If there is no power source at the storage lot the ability to equalize from solar becomes more of a nice item to include.
small batter bank, a medium bank, a large bank

It is an interesting balancing act. As battery capacity goes up solar capacity can be lowered. I really feel that 60 watts per 100 amp-hours is the lower limit for a flat fixed panel install.
With a bank such as mena's at 740 amp-hours that would leave him with lots of power. If the bank is just a pair of golf cart batteries, more watts are needed to get back the amps used in a day.
