I've been on a break from RC planes since I got more into photography. For 15 years though it was 3 times a week at the fields and the rest of the time building. In the end I spent more time instructing than flying my planes, it burns you out.
Aside from some little electrics, the only things I have flyable are a trainer and a Shoestring. On the tables I have a quarter scale pitts and a 10 ft cub. Waiting is tri plane, stearman, a gee bee and another 10 ft that I had intended to use as a tow for gliders. The big birds all have Sato 150 or 180 4 strokes except the big Pitts. It gets a Sato 300 twin.
On the extreme side I have a Diamond dust delta wing with a piped Super Tigre 46 that will do close to 200 mph and several fun flies that are ridiculously maneuverable.
I have taken them camping in the past but the extreme altitude provides less lift as well as less oxygen to the motors. The trail we come in on are the only strips and they are rough with rocks, wash boards, etc. All in all, not a good combo.
Btw, what is the standard for radios now? All of mine had gold stickers.
