Radio control planes/copters/quadcopters

Hi all,

Just wondering how many Rv'ers out there fly radio control planes, heli's or quads? I'm heavy into quads flying with my Gopro camera.

Would like to hear about some of the places ppl have flown, some of their experiences, and see some of the pics taken, if any.

Just wondering....

Enjoy the Journey....
  • I've been flying RC for many many years: jets to gliders to helis and everything between. At the moment I have a couple of electric 3D foamies but I do most of my flying on RealFlight.
  • I flew rc planes for a bit but the hobby got to expensive and most of the local hobby stores closed down. I take my kids out to a few of the fields in Kansas City area to watch guys fly when the weather is nice.
  • I am an old codger that has messed with everything but RC,but I have kinda got the itch for one of those. Some guy on the forum posted some pics made from a QuadcopterdI checked around on the net and found that they are kind of on the pricey side for a beginner so how about some of you pros give us newcomers a little help on something we could start with and also some websites.A good Hobby store is rare in these parts.thanks
  • I fly foam rc 3D planes mostly. But on occasion have flown gas planes.
  • Lots of us here. Quads and electric are good for RVs, due to limited spaces and storage. Difficult to find places to fly 60-90 size nitro or gas fixed-wing. It you can stay away from the kids with toys, the quads are really great. I don't have one yet, as the price range for a "real" one (qx350 + new radio) is a bit out of range for now.
  • We bought both our grandchildren the RC helicopters and trucks.

Over the years, LOL they are only 11 and 12 but we have learned to get the best you can afford. The fact that you can buy all the replacement parts is worth the initial expense and not having to buy the whole vehicle again.

We saw a helicopter with the camera attached the last time we were at the hobby shop. Am I right in thinking that they are more stable to fly? Grandpa here is trying to justify another K for 2 new toys for the boys, LOL
  • My wife got me a $29.99 RC helicopter UFO for Christmas. I love it, play with it all the time. It looks like the frame of a round ball with 2 sets of blades in the middle that twirl opposite directions. I'm learning to chase the cat around the house with it now. Dog love to bark at it. Wife laughs at it. I have fun with it. So ... everyone is happy.

I know that does not qualify for the "true blue" RC enthusiasts, but for us side-line armatures, they sure are a lot of fun. FYI, I had 2 of these types of helicopters before the UFO and killed one by landing on the cat, and the other just died completely from lots of use! They are a great way to kill winter blahs! You cannot control them outside ... even the slightest wind and they have a mind of their own. For use inside only!
