A few thoughts:
- 20# (BBQ tank) doesn't sound right for a 38' RV. Most use 30# tanks which look similar but are taller.
- Are both tanks empty or just one? To go thru one 30# tank is very realistic if it gets down near 30F at night after 10 days.
- Are you sure the tanks were full to begin with?
I would fill the tanks and go thru a cycle or two to see if it was an anomaly. On our prior 28' 5th wheel in the conditions you were talking about, I would expect a couple weeks per tank. One time we were down to -5F and we were going thru a tank per day, so the consumption does not seem unreasonable considering the extra size you are heating.
