I think it's pretty clear now that the CPE2000i has carved out a new power class for name-brand inverter generators (unless the Yamaha 2000 is more or less the same, which I don't know). It's similar to the situation of the Yamaha 2400 being in its own power class. While the CPE2000i isn't a Honda 2000 killer, I think it should be a pretty effective Honda 1000 killer.
At the risk of discussing generators contrary to the official thread I will pipe in a little here with the perspective of some anecdotal experience. Since my 2000i champion inverter unexpectedly died a couple of weeks ago with a 153 hours on the clock I wrestled with the idea of getting another but ultimately drank some blue koolaid and now have a Yamaha EF2000is powering my cabin.
Despite having very similar engine displacemet specs the Yamaha is definitely a different animal. It powers my 13 amp skil saw from eco with no hesitation(no feathering required) and I was even able to start/run my 12000 BTU portable A/C unit on the single yamaha unit, from eco none the less.
The champion came nowhere close to starting either tool/appliance at full engine speed without going into overload. I firmly beleive the champion engine is capable but the inverter software/tech is not there yet. Maybe in a future version but right now IMHO Champion is it's own sub class.
