Solar payback when compared to generators is viable.
Gains from MPPT with nominal 17 volt panels (12 volt battery bank) are around the 8% level (best case). I prefer MPPT but the pay back time is considerably longer. Above 17 volts then MPPT is the better choice.
If jumping on the 24 volt or 48 volt battery bank "wagon" then PWM is viable and a less expensive choice.
