This may be a stupid question, but why not replace the entire set-up with a wireless monitor / camera for under $200 ?
A wireless back-up camera is normally connected to a vehicles back up lights via the transmitter & turns off & on via that type of connection. If the transmitter power lead is connected to a 12 volt power supply that is on, when the ignition is on, the camera should work just fine for your needs. The monitor simply connects to a 12 volt receptacle on your dash.
