Rear view cameras - wired or wireless?

I'm having to replace the rear view system in our motorhome and I've found 2 systems that interest me: a wireless system with a single camera and a wired system with 3 cameras - prices are within about $10 of each other. My current system is an old Weldex B&W system with 1 camera and it no longer works. I'm trying to decide which way to go - I've read comments online about wireless systems dropping their connection at the worst possible times, having issues with interference, etc. but a friend of ours has one on their fifth wheel and he says he's had no issues with his since he bought it a year ago.

If I go wired, then I get cameras on the sides for lane changes, blind spots, etc. but I have to run wires from all 3 cameras into the cockpit. That's not an issue for me other than the time to do the work.

So, if you were in my position, which way would you go - wired or wireless? And, why?

For reference, here's the 2 systems I'm looking at: wired and wireless - any helpful comments on these offerings is also appreciated!
  • I use the haloview wireless setup. I have a rear camera and 2 side cameras on my fifth wheel. They work great and not too expensive.
  • I don't have either, but I do have lots if Computer networking experience, wired and wireless, and this is basically the same thing. Any time I can choose wired, I go wired, it is more stable and less prone to interference.

With wireless, the greater the distance between components, the more issues. Also walls, electronics, microwaves etc between the components, the more risk of interference. A system may work fine on a 32' rv, but a 38' it may be glitchy. Also I could see where aluminum vs wood studs could made a difference . Lots of variables when you go wireless.
  • Have had nothing but problems with wired RVS system. Have 4 cameras on my trailer. First problem was a loud hum from the audio on the rear camera. They replaced the monitor after lots of troubleshooting with them on the phone. The new one did the same thing, gave up on the audio. Next problem was the rear camera got moisture in it, sealing the hole for the microphone seems to have fixed that. Next big problem was that the monitor got hot on the dash and would cut out. This was a big problem. I fixed this by putting a fan on the back of the monitor. Have used it for about 1 year now with no more problems. Would not buy their system again.
  • I agree with the above, Furrion has good reviews that I've read. I can't comment on my wireless ones as of yet but I have high hopes? I can say the company was very responsive to questions and sending out external remote antenna's. I'll be finishing the install on the wireless in a week or so.
  • The wireless system is well respected on this forum and has good reviews. Typically wired systems are cheaper and better quality but the one you linked is expensive and has only one review and isn’t even a good review. And it’s not even a name brand. Take a look at Amazon wired systems and their reviews if you want to save money for a better wired system. I don’t have a wireless camera but from my research Furion is the only wireless system to get. Otherwise go wired and save some money.
  • I wanted both side and new rear view. I ended up with a wired system for my side view(wires were a tad easier to run into driver area) and a wireless two camera set up for the rear. I finally installed the wired pair yesterday and I'm very happy with the picture so far(waiting till I get on the road to make final determination). I also went with two separate systems because I wanted a bigger view so by having two monitors, I have a split view on each. I think that more than likely, I'll keep the rear view as a split screen and have the passenger side view as a full screen on my side view.

    PS
For comparison purposes...I purchased "all" from Amazon. The wireless system with two camera and monitor was a Zerox Club Brand for 229.00 and I pieced together the side view system with two side view camera's at 29.00 a piece and a quad 4 pin monitor for 70.00. I can add two additional 4 pin camera's if I wanted.
