Recalled Equipment what to do

First of all new to site and new to camping, "with a camper".
Just bought a used 2001 mallard 5th wheel.
Had problems with microwave, a Samsung. Got to investigating reasons for not working. Which lead me to this site, and finding out there is a recall on our microwave and also our refrigerator. Frig is a Dometic. My questions is there anything that I can get done since most of the post's I've seen is from early 2000's.

Thanks
Charlie

  • I'm thinking that the Samsung recall is the same one we had on our old Jayco HTT. Samsung sent a service tech out to our house (where we store the trailer). However, I'm wondering if they would even service a unit that old? They should, but many recalls have expiration. Might less frustrating to just get a new Microwave.
  • I would contact them (e-mail or phone....though e-mail will usually be less stressful:)) to see what they have to say.
You will probably need to have a local RV Service Dept. do the work, so it would be good to know who is in your area, and who you would trust with the repairs.

We had our fridge (Norcold) repaired with a recall, and the Shop also changed out a faulty circuit board, at my cost. Still, we had a like new fridge for less than $200.

Figure that all they can say is "Yes" or "No"....so it can't hurt to ask.

With regard to the microwave. Keep in mind that these RV units have additional venting/fans, and that they can usually be inter-changed when you swap out a microwave....so you shouldn't need to pay for the extra parts. And, if you were to do this job yourself, keep all the parts, until you are completely done, and the new unit is working properly.

    Good luck with the recalls.....
    Welcome to this forum:)

Do you know about microwave? Give them a call/e-mail also?
  • Dometic was responsive to my requests this week. Contact them and ask, I used emails. They have a big recall on awnings going on right now, so they seem to have some CS people assigned to recalls.
