Recommended fuel additive?

Bought gas at a gas station a few blocks away from where I normally go. Filled my generator up... noticed it surging.

What is a recommended additive, if there exists one, that might be able to undo what that five gallons of marginal fuel possibly did? I know about SeaFoam, but am wondering about other brands and offerings. Generally I have zero issues with surging/hunting, so this was an odd exception.

  • If the problem is actually water in the gas, and not a dirty carburetor, Stabil may be a better choice. Stabil actually absorbs water molecules which is why it is good for long term storage. Seafoam is manufactured more as a cleaner though they state it will preserve gas as well. I am not sure Seafoam will have much affect on water in your gas.
  • x2 on the Seafoam put it in all my equipment including the generator,
  • If you've had a lot of rain recently, could be you have some water in your fuel. I make it a point to never fill after a rain storm or a tanker delivers gas as this can stir up all sorts of cr-p in the ground tank.
  • I have great results with Sea Foam. Have a snapper lawn mower that was surging and two treatments of sea foam in the gas tank cleared it right up. I get my Sea Foam at walmart.
