I have a question regarding the blue “Input Trigger Settings” wire on the Redarc charger. This wire tells the charger when to turn on and off. Here’s a screen shot of the section that describes its use.
Basically, if the wire is disconnected you are choosing the standard trigger points for fixed voltage or temperature compensating alternators (on at 13.2v, off at 12.7v). If you connect the blue wire, you are choosing the low-voltage trigger points for variable voltage alternators (on at 12.0v, off at 11.9v).
How do I determine which type of alternator I have?
Is there any reason to not just connect it regardless of the alternator type? Seems like the “low voltage” trigger points would be just fine. If the input voltage is above 12v, the charger turns on. If it drops below 11.9v it turns off.
What do you think?
