temps in the fridge & freezer were good with fan off.Beer was not getting cold and things in the freezer were only semi froze when fan was on
    dometic auto temp control
    fridge is in a slide

Fan should only need to be run when air temps are above 85*F

W/O Fan ON........what temps are you getting freezer/food sections

    What Brand/Model of Fridge?
    What Year?

IS fridge in a slide out?

the fan is a separate switch when we had the fan on the freezer and fridge were not cooling very well we turned the fan off and both the fridge and freezer were working better

So this is a fan in outside compartment?????

It is manually controlled by On/OFF switch VS thermostat???

What is ambient (outside) air temp??

How long has fridge been turned ON?

  • IF you are asking about a fan used to circulate air inside the food section.....they should run when door is closed

IF you are asking about a fan used to help with air flow (draft) in the outside compartment.....they typically are t-stat controlled.
Some t-stats turn fan on/off based on condenser fin temps (very top cooling fins). They turn fan on at 130*F fin temp and Off at 115*F fin temp.
Some t-stats turn fan on based on ambient air temp.....outside air temps above 85*F fan on.

Which 'fan' and what do you mean by your statement ".....when it's running it does not get cold"
