Refrigerator door shelf mount tab

My refrigerator door shelf tab broke

I formed a tab out of PVC pipe cuttings

and glued it with this

PVC cement might have been better, seems to be holding strong. Is there anything I can buy that might be better?

A picture with the shelf in place. It is a tight squeeze the PVC was formed from a piece of 1" shed 20 pipe and a heat gun. The tab was formed from a piece of a 1" PVC coupler with 2 #4 stainless sheet metal screws for extra hold
  • Might want to run a bead of that glue on the other one. The picture makes it look like it might be cracked.

your right, the plastic on the door is very thin maybe 3 or 4 sheets of paper thick it's the foam filling that gives it it's strength. maybe I should do the same on the other side
  • Think we had 3 or 4 quarts of milk and juice on this shelf, those tabs on the door are not sturdy enough for that kind of load. If you are going to load up this shelf you might want to reinforce the bond to the door with some Gorilla Tape or something.
  • 3M 5200 Quick Drying sealant. Just don't get it on anything you EVER want to remove. It will set up underwater also. Be sure to get the Quick Drying version. The original takes a week or so to set up. Remember, it is a permanent fix and when dry can not be removed.
  • That3M 5200 Quick-Drying sealant is what I should have used I think. If they fall off I will try this adhesive. A new door cost about $137 but they will just break off again hopefully this will be better. Thanks for the info
  • Could you have done it so that it looks a little better? I mean it works, but really looks cobbled together. Maybe a fiberglass tab that could have been sanded down so it kind of blended in?
  • Well it will be mostly covered up by the shelf, I suppose I could have made a plaster of Paris mold of the other tab and made a part out of fiberglass and resin. I was a bit sloppy at making that pice

A bit more fiddly for sure, but would have paid off with the final product. But, hey, it works and that's the main thing.
