Hmmm .... so my assumption that the 5-position temperature control switch is establishing the Norcold unit's "duty cycle ON time" for the entire unit - thus getting both the freezer section and refrigerator section colder as the switch settings go up from 1 to 5 - is not correct?
I have thermometers in both the freezer and refrigerator sections of our RV's Norcold unit. I'll run a test to see if switch position 5 lowers the freezer's temperature below 10 degrees - of course right along with lowering the refrigerator section's temperature to an unacceptably low value. So far after 11 years position 4 of the switch will usually freeze milk in the refrigerator section during the hotest weather, so we keep the refrigerator on setting 3 to better maintain mid-to-high 30's average temperatures in the refrigerator section ... but when doing this the freezer section is around only 10 degrees instead of zero degrees, as we want.
Some Dometic models either turn on the interior light, or have actual heaters in them to force the unit to work more- resulting in a colder freezer. On some this is the LAT switch, for Low Ambient Temperature .
