Refrigerator question

I just replaced the control board to my dometic refrigerator. I need to know what is the accepted refrigerator and freezer temperatures are. This board has an adjustment on it and I would like to get it close to what it is suppose to be with the temp on the inside control on 3 out of 5. Thanks

Ken

Fridge less than 40 F, Freezer zero F. at least I think that's the targets.

Google or Wikipedia should be able to find that for you.

On edit: My memory is working rather well today. Google found me the following link which you can read for yourself if you like.

    Federal FDA link
  • I've had my Dometic flash-freeze water bottles, where the water remained liquid, but one thunk, and they immediately turned into slush.

This is one reason why I use hard-sided gel freezer packs, and switch them between the freezer and fridge compartments. This way, the fridge gets an added help to keep things cool.
  • The water, sugars and any additives were freezing....the 80 proof rum (alcohol) won't freeze until roughly -30*F.

Pour off the alcohol and have a stiff shot or two :B

We use to put bottles Bali-Hai wine in freezers to get rid of all the sugars/water and drink just the alcohol left from freezing...hey it was high school and not alot of money.
  • After changing my battery a couple weeks ago, my Norcold, froze a bottle of 80 proof rum into a giant slushi. Never seen that happen before. Had to be well below the optimum zero. Kicked it from 9 (where it set itself to) to 2. all seems fine now. I agree with zero degree freezer temp.
  • I keep the fridge right at 31-33 with digital wireless sensors to monitor .
At this temp the actual food will be about 33-36.
Freezer hovers at -4 to 6.

Dometic 2652 with Amish cooling unit and fans, both in and out.
  • Per Dometic Corporation:

How cold should my fridge get?
The answer is it depends --- on the ambient temperature, but generally the fridge will operate at 38-42 degrees Fahrenheit (4-6 degrees Celsius). This represents a 40-degree drop from typical ambient temperature, with the temperature control set at 3. The freezer section is designed to be 30 degrees (15 degrees Celsius) less than the fridge temperature.

    Refrigerator Temperature

The FDA recommends keeping the refrigerator temperature at or below 40 degrees, which slows bacterial growth and maintains quality, according to the University of Nebraska extension service. A refrigeration repair website suggests 38 degrees as an optimum temperature. A unit set for 38 degrees can start cooling at that temperature and turn off at 35 degrees. Setting a temperature below 35 degrees requires a forced defrost cycle and uses additional energy.

    Freezer Temperature

Keep the freezer at zero degrees, according to the FDA. The Nebraska extension service points out that zero degrees does not kill most bacteria, but it does stop bacterial growth. Flavor changes occur over time with frozen foods, and quality decreases the longer a product stays frozen.

  • Below 10*F freezer (0*F is better) and 38*F food section (under 40*F....above 34*F)
