It does need 12 volts to function properly. It will not work on 10 volts.

I'll refer to my Dometic, model 2652 as per the manual.

    Quote: The refrigerator requires
at least 9.6V DC for proper operation; however the panel
lights will continue to illuminate until voltage has dropped
    to 4V DC or below.

I stand corrected although this has not been my experience. When my battery has been below 11.5 volts it would not work and the check light came on. Just my experience.

Honestly, I've never experienced the situation myself, since I never let my batteries get below 12.2

  • If the gas is on and working in the RV in general, and the battery is charged, it means there's something with the fridge that's preventing it from lighting. There are a few simple things to inspect:

    1. There's often a manual shut-off valve that's a part of the fridge to check. On my Dometic, it's a bit that looks kind of like a large setscrew on the solenoid valve/burner assembly; turning it a quarter turn opens or closes it. Other makes or models may, of course, differ in details.

    2. Check that the igniter is sparking properly, and that the gap for the electrodes looks reasonable.

    3. Check that the burner assembly and general area is clean, free of debris, etc.

There are probably a few other simple checks. Those are the straightforward ones I'm aware of. I do know from direct personal experience that the fridge works a lot better with the gas shut-off valve open.

  • If there is a check light on, it has 12 volt. It does not need a full 12 volts to function properly.

Are you trying to run it on propane ?

Is your propane tank valve open ?

Light one stove top burner for a couple minutes, then retry frig.
  • Need over 12 volts on battery if you are running on gas. Are the batteries charged?
