Refrogerator Problem

Our Norcold 1200 fridge will not run off propane or generator. Workds fine on shore power. Had this problem last year; RV fixit guy checked it out, said it was working fine. Nopo.

Any suggestions? Still considering switching out with a residential fridge.

  • Could be a bad circuit board. We have had our work on electric and generator, but not propane. The circuit board was the problem. Replaced and all worked fine.
  • When on generator check that you have 12VDC ......NO DC/No workie on AC or propane
  • Your generator must have electrical issues.

No flame from propane could be many things.
could be blocked tubes between the tank and the flame.
    Could be wasp got in
    could be a bad regulator
    or a sensor went bad
or the thermocouple is bad or bent
lack of DC power to fridge
    blown fuse
    blown circuit board
could be fridge is on the last leg - the AC power might make more heat than the gas flame (did you confirm you do not have a flame) and the flame is just not enough to do any good.

    Those darn refrogerators

Yeah, when they break, what is an evil witch to do with a handsome prince.

Seriously, though. Sounds like maybe you only have 12v to the control circuits on shore power. Not sure why that would happen but as said Shore A/C and Generator AC should be the same. No 12v when on battery would stop propane from working.
  • That's very odd that it works on shore power but not generator. The 120v supply to the fridge shouldn't care (or know) whether it's coming from the generator or shore.

Have you verified that you are getting 120v at the plug that the ref plugs into while on the generator?

Of course that doesn't address the propane side, but it might point to an electrical problem outside the ref that could have an influence on the 12v system that the ref controls run off of - like converter/charger/inverter.
