Removing 50 Amp RV Surge Protector

If I was to cut the wire to install a Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C Hardwire 50 Amp RV Surge Protector in my trailer and then if I sell the trailer and want to remove it, would it be acceptable to rejoin the wires in a junction box?

  • Are you installing in the middle of a long wire run? Or near one end?

If near the end just disconnect the wire and connect to the EMS direct. No cut. Then add a short romex from the EMS to the place where you disconnected. Upon removal just put it back oem.
  • See what you mean now. I found some other types on the net but would be looking at $80 to do it. I'll keep looking. Thanks

Thanks SoundGuy. Exactly what type of 50 connectors are you talking about?

I used 30 amp TT connectors and pigtails to install my EMS-HW30C 'cause I already had most of what I needed in the workshop but one could alternately use twist lock connectors, in your case the 50 amp versions.

Sure ... or better still, install it using 50 amp connectors, that way you can remove it at any time for any reason.
