You don't use 100% of Li Ah either. Some risk 10-90% "between the knees" so 80% of Ah available. Others are only willing to do 20-80% or 60% of Ah.
Keeping the cells in sync and within the "knees" is where the electronics is necessary. I wouldn't trust doing it manually.
But yes, generally more life-cycles.
Another issue with lithium is charging when below freezing: not good for the batteries. They can be discharged though.
