Replace RV Body?

Cruise America used to remove the Class C RV bodies and put boxes on and sell them as delivery trucks. Not sure they still do that as they have plenty of 100K+ miles C's for sale.

It seems to me that you might be referring to Class C units. You might want to contact one of the big companies that rent Class C's, as I can imagine that after enough mileage they might put the house onto a new chassis?

Really? I don't know if that would be a problem in PA. The registration on my father in law's Class C is listed as "incomplete" which is just the van + chassis.

Sure, it's also a Four Winns. Hmmm...if he switches it to another brand it might cause some troubles here, but mostly it is VIN of the vehicle.

Is there something else (you're in CA) they use where you are?

From a practical point, an aging RV would be LOTS of trouble, with rusted body bolts, mounting points, old fuel lines, etc. Maybe try down south without rust.

Here in PA it is a real challenge to change truck beds on older trucks.

Though it would be a really *interesting* idea if you can make it work?

Another wives tale is that they pull the house unit off and put a newer chassis under it from a wrecked or newer unit,this practice was stopped in the mid 1970s.

Here in Florida I spent over an hour just trying to register a plain ole used utility trailer I bought. Is it homemade? Can't be because it came from a store, yet it has no title, owner registered it, call the previous owner, owner dead, and on and on and on. You'd of thought I was trying to register a stolen vehicle. :R

Couldn't imagine trying to register a MH with different chassis, etc. I'd end up going postal at the DMV! :B

It would be a new motorhome- the chassis vin is what would be used- new chassis, new vin.
We did it all the time with truck bodies.

Yup. Today's labor rate might send a person into cardiac arrest. There is little to be gained by spending $12,000.00 to end up with an $8,000.00 rig. An advantage would be to not have the engine go into limp mode home if you slam the door too hard or misadjust a rear-view mirror. New rig chassis technology is utterly stupid.
